The Palm Beach County Convention Center was a challenging project that put the skills of East Coast Flooring & Interiors to the test. The entire center is 350,000 square feet. That requires coordination, exact precision, creative design, and a discipline for planning. The intricacy of the luxury patterned carpet was stunning, and a large amount of the custom carpet design was required.
Some of the most exciting aspects of the convention center flooring project include its 100,000 square-foot exhibit hall. It also includes a 22,000 square-foot ballroom. The most important area was a flexible space designed to be broken down into as many as 19 rooms. When a space can be arranged in countless combinations of rooms, the design needs to accommodate this naturally.
Luxury Patterned Carpet with a Detailed, Large-Scale Design
The custom carpet design included 30 unique patterns. Each was assigned precise locations. At the same time, you never want any pattern to get old. The more space a room has, the larger the pattern must be without losing any of that close-up detail or intricacy. If you’re in a large space and you can see the pattern repeating in a visible way, then the designer failed somewhere. This meant developing luxury patterned carpet that possessed fine detail work that can be admired up close, but with patterns that stretch out more than 30 feet before repeating an element.
That’s exciting because it creates a space that’s unique no matter how you arrange it. A large room keeps giving you new details, and new parts of a large pattern as you traverse it. Break that space into more than a dozen smaller rooms for an event, and each has a segment of intricate pattern that leaves each of those rooms unique.

There’s always something unique that comes up in a project this big – a door is placed differently than on blueprints, or an alcove was never marked. It’s a 10-row, 44 oz. dense carpet that can withstand a heavy amount of foot traffic for years on end.
The ballroom was a great conceptual accomplishment. It transitions colors from light to dark as if a sandy beach dropping away slowly to the deeper sea. Using broadloom carpet makes the job a little tougher because it means managing the seams with special attention. The benefit is you get such a remarkable visual texture and depth of color. Because it lasts longer, it will also hold the richness of those colors for years more.
