The Ins and Outs of Commercial Stone Flooring
Luxurious. Elegant. Durable. Practical. If you are searching for viable commercial stone flooring solutions in South Florida for your business or organization, it can seem impossible that one surface will supply all of these benefits. Natural stone, however, provides an unparalleled aesthetic, as well as an unflagging work ethic that is difficult to beat. We have extensive experience in commercial stone flooring – and in delivering the best advice and customer service in the industry.
Types of Stone Flooring
Natural stone is sourced from mountain-born mineral substances rather than synthetic or manufactured products. This includes marble, granite, sandstone, slate, limestone, and travertine. Each of these natural stones has unique qualities; a deep understanding of each stone’s properties is necessary to ensure you select the right solution for your specific needs. Rest assured, our expert team possesses this expertise, as well as experience in installing these beautiful surfaces.
Stone floors offer unique beauty. Created by the earth, each stone is different – ensuring your floor is truly one of a kind. It also establishes a connection to nature. Don’t discount this; it can make a significant impact on user experience.
As you choose commercial stone floors, there are several factors to keep in mind. Absorption rating is a primary concern. How porous is it? The more absorbent materials are, the more vulnerable they are to staining and cracking under freezing conditions (not that we have to worry about that much in the Sunshine State!).
Granite Flooring Designs
Granite, for example, is virtually impervious to absorption. It repels it! This means it will require much less maintenance than, say, sandstone, which is quite porous. Depending on the application (e.g. entryway, lounge, bathroom, etc.), certain stones are better suited for the demands of the job.
Another factor to consider is the coefficient of friction – simply, how slippery the material is. Higher coefficients indicate more traction. For bathrooms, kitchens, and high-traffic areas, you must have a minimum of a 0.6 dryness coefficient. As well, some stone options are more applicable to outdoor applications; if you need to surface and open-air space, this is a major concern.
It may seem complicated, but our job is to ensure that evaluating natural stone floor types is easy – and that installing them in your business, organization, or facility is even easier with us. Please contact our team to learn more.
