Retail store flooring takes a beating during the holidays. As South Florida flooring subcontractors, we’ve seen a lot of floors sustain more damage simply because they weren’t prepared properly. Before the masses descend upon your store, make sure it’s as ready as you are for the savvy shoppers.
With the right prep, you can extend the lifespan of your floor. A bit of maintenance, attention, and stocking now means that you don’t have to replace your floor nearly as soon as you feared:
Maintenance
Don’t overlook stripping and waxing your floor. If it needs to be done, get it done before the rush. Any floor that’s not well maintained, finished, or sealed will sustain more damage. More grit, water, dirt, and dust will get into your floor and be ground in like sandpaper under all the foot traffic. Good maintenance before the rush makes an incredible difference.
Supplies
If your custodial and maintenance staff say they need supplies to maintain the floors, make sure they have them. Now is not the time to skimp. You also have to be aware of what it’s like to have to re-stock supplies the week before Thanksgiving or Christmas. Some supply companies may run out of stock or even ramp up the prices. Purchase now, save money, and make sure your staff can address problems as they occur without waiting around for the tools/solutions they need.
Entry/Exit
A lot of the factors that damage your floor can be taken care of by good entry mats. Make sure they’re in good condition and that they’re doing the job you need them to. They’re not just for decoration; their function is to pull off grit and dirt that will otherwise get worked into your floor. Have your maintenance staff clean the mats at the end of the day.
Retail store flooring can endure the holidays safely when you make maintenance and preparation a priority. If you need South Florida flooring subcontractors to take a look at damage or provide advice,, make sure you get it done before the rush so that you’re ready.
