Luxury vinyl plank flooring and luxury vinyl tile have been wonderful and welcome additions to the family of flooring.  After previous generations knew vinyl flooring as only sheet flooring, today both luxury vinyl plank flooring (LVP) and luxury vnyl tile flooring (LVT) are exquisite options for flooring.  LVP has the vinyl flooring shaped in pieces of planks that resemble hardwood floor planks (which are more expensive and come with their own set of pros and cons), while LVT makes the flooring resembling pieces of tile.  Either of these choices would make a wonderful addition to your home or office, and they are available in numerous colors and patterns to fit right in with any décor.

LVP VS. LVT

Both high-quality LVP and LVT are excellent products that will serve you well. They are popular choices, and with good reason.  LVP comes in plank form, much like you would see in real hardwood. As well, you will find realistic touches, such as scraping, distressing, and surface textures that mimic the charm and warmth of hardwood. Luxury vinyl plank flooring can also come in narrow or wider plank widths.  LVT comes in tile form to mimic the look of tiles made from stone, bamboo, fabric, etc.

LVP and LVP are made the same way. They consist of several layers, including a PVC core, a designed print film layer, and a durable wear layer. They are both waterproof as well. You can also get a backing underneath the layers for added comfort and sound absorption. Thanks to advanced printing techniques, the sky’s the limit when it comes to your floor!  Both LVP and LVT are available in different thicknesses, including the wear layer thickness. The thicker the wear layer, the more comfortable the flooring will be.

Both types of flooring are attractive alternatives to pricier hardwood, and unlike the “real” thing, they do not require much maintenance to look and perform their best. You won’t have to worry about warping, cracking, and other damage, and you will get a very realistic appearance. Luxury vinyl flooring is also easier and less expensive to install. Benefits include:

  • Affordable alternative to high-priced stone and hardwood, as they only cost a fraction.
  • Available in many colors, grains, textures, or patterns.
  • Easy to clean up spills and messes from kids and pets.
  • Both will stand up to high foot traffic with ease.
  • Both are easy to walk on and feet friendly.
  • Can be installed in wet or moisture-prone areas of the home, such as the bathroom, kitchen, and even the basement.
  • Luxury vinyl plank flooring and luxury vinyl tiles are softer, which is a big consideration if you have children and/or elderly household members.
  • LVP and LVT are resistant to scratches and water damage.
  • Some variations of luxury vinyl are well-suited to basements, laundry rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms – rooms in which you would never want to install finicky hardwood – but with luxury vinyl plank flooring or luxury vinyl tile, you can still have the look of hardwood!
  • Cleanup is easy: an occasional wet cleaning with a mop is all it takes.
  • Both LVT and LVP can be repaired. If a single area of the flooring were to get damaged, it can be repaired with a replacement tile or plank, as opposed to having to replace the entire flooring.

LVP vs. LVT share many similarities. In reality, you will not go wrong with either LVP or LVT since both floorings are beautiful, easy to care for, and moisture resistant. Both can withstand significant foot traffic and are child and pet friendly. With only a fraction of the cost of hardwood, the floorings can instantly improve the home’s aesthetics and they can last for many years.

CONCLUSON

Your choice comes down to your vision. If you love the look of hardwood and want the visual appeal of planks, LVP is your winner. If you want your flooring to resemble stone, bamboo, or another surface, LVT comes out on top.
