Your flooring has a significant impact on the overall appearance of your business – as well as the image it projects to patrons. What is your flooring saying about you? Well, if you spot these signs of restaurant carpet traffic wear and tear, it’s saying you should consider replacement!
- Stains. Every carpet will see some spills and drops, but if stains are not effectively removed initially, they become permanent blotches on your appearance. And as the stain resistant finish wears off, the carpet is more prone to staining.
- “Traffic Lanes.” In high traffic areas, you’ll see “lanes” starting to appear. These lanes look dirtier and grimier, even when thoroughly cleaned. You may also see rips, fraying, and runs that no amount of cleaning can remove.
- Matting. Over time, carpet fibers lose the ability to return to their original shape. The carpet looks flat, worn, dirty, and gray.
- Odors. Even after a thorough cleaning, odors may waft up. This means they’ve penetrated the carpet itself, as well as the padding beneath. Mold may even grow, which, in addition to being stinky, is a health risk.
- Allergies. Speaking of which, older carpets retain more particulates and allergens that can wreak havoc on staff and guests. Are you seeing an increase in sneezing, sniffling, and red, watery eyes? It’s not a great look for a restaurant, to be sure!
- Padding Problems. With older carpets, the padding may be worn and the support and sound dampening it provides decreases. You may notice that the carpet seems uneven or wrinkled.
- Styles. Your carpet may be in tolerable shape but give off a dated feel. Carpet trends come and go – and if yours has gone, it’s time to explore some new restaurant flooring options!
