“Carpet versus wood. Or maybe even a laminate that can be printed to simulate the look of hardwood. Natural stone is also really nice, but is it worth the cost?”
When trying to choose a commercial flooring installation for your business, the amount of options can be overwhelming. Our infographic above outlines some important questions to ask yourself, which will help you select the smartest flooring choice for your workspace.
What are my needs, based on the type of office I work in?
There’s quite a difference between flooring for a tiny, quiet office and a busy hotel or retail space. Heavy foot-traffic will quickly take its toll on delicate carpets and hardwoods, so we recommend installing vinyl, tile, or a durable carpet in the areas at risk of wear.
What is the purpose of each area?
Take into consideration that carpet is not the best choice in kitchens and restrooms, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be in your lobby or office space. A beautiful marble floor may work well in your lobby, but is it worth spending the money to install in in the areas that nobody sees?
Where is my business located?
If you’re on the ground floor of a South Florida building where it rains almost daily in the summer, we recommend going with a floor that is slip-resistant and cleans easily. If you have large windows that let in lots of sunshine, bright carpet can fade quickly.
What is my budget?
You may love the look of bamboo or natural stone, but carpet, vinyl and tile are less expensive. If you want to splurge a bit, consider installing expensive flooring in just the lobby.
How much time & money do I want to invest in maintenance?
The longevity of your floors are ultimately based on two factors: proper installation and proper maintenance. Carefully maintaining your floors will keep them in good condition, saving you the hassle of repairing or replacing it. Keep in mind that some flooring options, such as carpet, will require more frequent cleaning.
Do I want something eco-friendly?
If you’re trying to be “green,” some eco-friendly flooring options include cork, linoleum, bamboo and stone.
